Puppetry can make imaginary worlds come alive! Campers will learn to build unique, life-size puppets. Together, the group will create a story and backdrop to enliven the puppets created from fabrics, 3-D objects, and even papier mache. The week will culminate with a puppet show from Madcap Puppet Theater!

Have you wanted to learn how to paint? This class is for you with its introduction to color theory, paint mixing and painting techniques. Participants are encouraged to bring either oil or acrylic paints. Exercises and handouts will help to teach participants how to compose a painting, emphasize a focal point and create a mood. Fellow participants will support each other in the process of learning how to paint what is observed.

Whether you are curious about watercolor painting or whether you would like to hone the skills that you already have, you can explore the soft flow of watercolor, learn color theory, and learn application techniques in the Watercolor Painting Classes at ArtsConnect. In each class, a new painting and watercolor technique will be taught.

Learn to use your digital camera with a combined approach to manipulating the aperture, shutter speed, and ISO. Once you master the camera for the best exposure, try artistically enhancing the image using the Adobe Lightroom software. Each class will consist of reviewing 10 of your best pictures from the prior class meeting, taking new pictures, and enhancing pictures using a laptop.
Participants are asked to bring their own digital camera and five printed images of recent photos. Participants are welcome to bring their own laptop loaded with Adobe Lightroom software, if they wish.

Pint-size Picassos is an art class that is inspired by Children's Literature and the children, themselves. Imaginative role play will serve as the foundation for creative expression. Projects will involve various media and fun! Classes take place at the Springfield Township Community Art Center, the second building back on the campus at 9150 Winton Road.

Private lessons begin with a 30 minute consultation to determine the participant's level and goals. Together, the participant and the teacher will identify an agenda, a practice commitment and schedule, choice of music style, and the type of support needed to commit to the year of private lessons. Private Piano Lessons are offered in 8 week sessions with the exception of Session 3 which is a 6 week session. A summer and winter recital are scheduled on 6/6/19 and 12/12/19.

Score, slip, and press! Those are the first steps to working in clay. Participants will learn how to make slip properly and to use hand-building techniques such as making coils and slabs. These techniques are the foundation to making clay pots. Be inspired to create the most unique pot that is possible! Clay and glaze will be supplied.

All kids can learn how to sew by creating fun pillows, capes, stuffed animals, bags, pins, and many more creative projects. Kids Sewing classes are taught in room B of the Community Art Center on Tuesdays from 4:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. A $5 supply fee has been added as supplies are provided.

ArtsConnect offers private instrument lessons for those who play band instruments. These lessons are perfect for refining skills while playing in a school band. Opportunities to play with a band or ensemble are also available.
Flute, Trumpet, Clarinet, French Horn, Alto Saxophone, Trombone, and Snare Drum.
Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced lessons are offered for French Horn!

Children, ages 4-6, will learn rhythms, patterns, and pitch through movement, song, and playing small instruments. Using the Orff Schulwerk technique, Miss Suzanne will lead this music class with fun and kinesthetic ways to prepare young minds and hands for the piano or other instruments when they reach age 7.

The ArtsConnect Kids Drawing & Painting for children ages 7 - 13, presents the opportunity for participants to explore the visual arts in surprising, fun, and creative ways. The curriculum combines relevant topics integrated with skill development in various mediums.

Learning how to draw just became easier with step-by-step instruction from our talented drawing instructor! Classes will focus on building basic drawing techniques with practice. Students will deepen their understanding of form through perspective, color, and rapid visualization drawings. Critiques develop students’ abilities to think critically about their own work and maintaining their art journal will allow students to record thoughts, experiment with ideas, media, and practice ideas.
Recommended for ages 14 and older

Learn the Tiffany copper foil technique of stained glass with step-by-step instruction and all the tools you need! You will have a variety of glasses to choose from for specific class projects. Most supplies are provided. Participants may want to purchase their own supplies as they progress with their skills and techniques.
All classes take place on Thursdays from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the art room at the Springfield Township Community Art Center, the second building back on the campus at 9150 Winton Road.
Minimum 3 students ages 14 and older.

The ArtsConnect woodshop class is semi-traditional. Participants will learn how to both design and build different woodworking projects. Our instructor will guide participants through the steps of building a piece from either reclaimed or new materials. Each session is designed for participants to hone their craftsmanship, learn new skills and equipment, and explore the reaches of their creativity.

What? Puppets for lunch!!! We can't eat the puppets!!! No, of course not - but plan to pack your picnic lunch and your favorite blanket for an entertaining puppet show on the lawn at The Grove Park. (9150 Winton Road) MadCap's giant puppets will present :The Great Space Caper". After the show, families can enjoy making a space-themed craft, bubbles, a scavenger hunt on the lawn and yard games. Freddy's Frozen Custard will be available for $2/cup! ($1 proceeds support ArtsConnect). Tickets are sold at the event. ArtsConnect campers will celebrate what they love about Cincinnati through their artwork this week. The rich history of Cincinnati has given it beautiful and memorable icons and landmarks that we all recognize and love. Campers will use drawings, resists, collages, and box sculptures to illustrate their favorite Cincinnati icons.

Design, engineering, and art collide this week as campers reflect the beauty of machines and industrial design in their artwork. Machines are full of intricate shapes, colors, textures, and mass that inspire campers to create illustrations and abstractions in multiple media. Campers will have a chance to look, touch, and climb onto machines at the "Touch a Truck" event on Friday of this week.

Ties, t-shirts, and trousers transform into new, fashionable clothing this week as campers explore fashion design, up-cycled apparel, and create new, unusual fashion trends. Campers will use non-sewing techniques to remake clothes into new pieces of art. Twisting, ripping, braiding, printing, painting, dyeing, and weaving will all take place at ArtsConnect!
