Ages 7 - 13

Score, slip and press!  Those are the first steps to working with clay.  Participants will learn hand-building techniques, such as making coils and slabs to build 3-dimensional clay creations. These techniques are the foundation to making clay pots.  Be inspired to create the most unique pot that is possible!   Kids Hand-building is taught on Monday afternoons from 4:30 - 6:00 p.m. at ArtsConnect Springfield Community Art Center, 9158 Winton Rd, Building A, behind the fire station.  for participants ages 7 - 13. The classes cost $75 for non-members and $67.50 for members for each six-week session. The fee includes all supplies of clay, glazes, firing, and the use of pottery tools.

No class on Monday Holidays: MLK, Memorial Day & Labor Day, and the week of Thanksgiving.

Ages 9 - 13

Give the potter’s wheel a spin! This class is a great chance to try out a new skill. Students will learn the basics of throwing, trimming, and decorating pottery in this 6-week class. 

ArtsConnect offers two Kids Wheel classes, Intro and Wheel 2.  Kids Intro Wheel class is where all students should begin. Throwing on the wheel can be challenging for young and old and takes lots of practice. Kids Intro Wheel is offered two different times, Tuesday Afternoon and Wednesday Morning.

Once students have mastered centering and working independently they can then move up to the Kids Wheel 2 class on Tuesday evening.  The instructor can recommend whether your child is ready to move up.

Kids Wheel 2:  Tuesday, 6:30 - 8:30 pm

COVID Safety Standards: Students wear masks, pottery wheels are 6 ft apart and sanitized before and after each class. ArtsConnect Springfield Community Arts Center is located at, 9158 Winton Rd, Building A, behind the fire station.   


Students will learn the basics of throwing on the potter’s wheel in the intro class. They will trim each piece and finish with desired glazes.

Wheel 2 is for those that have mastered the skills of centering on the wheel. Students may move up to Wheel 2 upon instructor recommendation.

Kids Hand-building Instructor: Kerri Bram

Kerri Bram is a long-time art educator teaching art since 2004.  She has taught all levels from PreK through adults in various educational environments. She received her BS in Fine Art and Art Education from the College of Mount St. Joseph and MA from the Cincinnati Art Academy. Kerri utilizes her creative skills to inspire students with an opportunity to develop media mastery in the arts. She is a nurturing art instructor that uses a variety of motivations to introduce students to each project creating a stimulating learning environment. Kerri hopes to “infuse into others, the passion that I have for reading, understanding and communicating through the use of signs and symbols to communicate concepts that are both personal and universal.” Kerri teaches the ArtsConnect Preschool Pottery, Kids and Adult Hand-building and Kids Drawing Painting classes.

Class Cancellations & Weather Closings

A minimum of four students must be enrolled for the session prior to the stated deadline for the class to take place (maximum 12 students). The Springfield Township Senior and Community Arts Center follows Finneytown School District inclement weather closings. To verify closings, call 513-522-2108. 

Due to costs incurred in planning for art classes, full refunds will only be issued when the Arts Council cancels the class. Class cancellations made within 10 business days of the class start date are eligible for a refund, minus a $5 administration fee per student. Refunds will be made by check, not to a credit card.
