Adult and Kids Hand-building Pottery

Score, slip and press!  Those are the first steps to working with clay.  Participants will learn hand-building techniques, such as making coils and slabs to build 3-dimensional clay creations. 
These techniques are the foundation to making clay pots.  Be inspired to create the most unique pot that is possible!  Clay and glaze will be supplied.  

ADULT HAND-BUILDING POTTERY

(ages 14 and older)  Adults are taught on Tuesday evenings from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. in the New Pottery Studio of ArtsConnect Springfield Community Art Center, 9158 Winton Rd, Building A, behind the fire station.  The classes cost $125 for non-members and $112.50 for members for each six-week session. All supplies are included: 25 lb clay, glaze, firing and use of tools, including slab-roller and texturing materials.

KIDS HAND-BUILDING POTTERY

(ages 7 - 13) Kids will learn many hand-building techniques to make creative pieces of pottery. Kids Hand-building is taught on Tuesday afternoons from 4:30 - 6:00 p.m. at ArtsConnect Springfield Community Art Center, 9158 Winton Rd, Building A, behind the fire station.  for participants ages 7 - 13. The classes cost $75 for non-members and $67.50 for members for each six-week session. Fee includes all supplies of clay, glazes, firing, and the use of pottery tools.

KIDS POTTERY WHEEL WORKSHOP

(ages 10 -13) Give the potter’s wheel a spin! This three week workshop is a great chance to try out a new skill. Students will learn the basics of throwing, trimming, and decorating pottery in this condensed three week workshop! This is a 3-week class teaching the basics of wheel throwing. It is offered on Tuesdays at two different times each session, 4:30 - 6:30 pm and 10 am - 12 pm for those doing home-schooling or online education. All supplies included.

Hand-building Instructor:  
Jamie Grauvogel

Jamie is a ceramic artist, art educator and owner of Graybird Pottery, LLC. She received a BA in Art Education and BFA in Ceramics at Mount Saint Joseph University. As an educator and professional artist, Jamie has a constant thirst for knowledge, finding new techniques and new innovative ways to create.  Jamie brings these new innovations into her ArtsConnect Pottery classes.  She will be teaching ArtsConnect Kids and Adult Hand-building classes, Intro and Intermediate Wheel classes.  Jamie also teaches creative workshops such as, clay jewelry and serving bowls and platters.  If you are interested in these workshops, check out our workshop page https://www.theartsconnect.us/218/Workshops

Kids Pottery Wheel Instructor: Jennifer Watson

Jennifer received her MFA from the University of Cincinnati DAAP in 2018. She has 10 years of wheel throwing experience and has been teaching ceramics since 2015. In addition to teaching, she runs her own small pottery business. Jennifer teaches the ArtsConnect Date Night Pottery classes.  

Class Cancellations & Weather Closings

A minimum of four students must be enrolled for the session prior to the stated deadline for the class to take place (maximum 12 students). The Springfield Township Senior and Community Arts Center follows Finneytown School District inclement weather closings. To verify closings, call 513-522-2108. 

Due to costs incurred in planning for art classes, full refunds will only be issued when the Arts Council cancels the class. Class cancellations made within 10 business days of the class start date are eligible for a refund, minus a $5 administration fee per student. Refunds will be made by check, not to a credit card. To notify us of a cancellation, please send an email to artsinfo@springfieldtwp.org.
