POTTERY WORKSHOPS

ArtsConnect offers different pottery workshop techniques for all ages. Whether you want to try the pottery wheel or do hand-building, we offer it all!  Workshops are the best way to try a pottery technique without committing to a class. Enjoy a fun night out with your sweetheart or friends during one of our monthly date night pottery workshops.  Or register for a pottery wheel workshop to learn the process of throwing on the wheel.  Pottery wheel too challenging for you, then you'll love our hand-building workshops. Most workshops are held on Saturdays and last for several hours.  We do offer several workshops for more than one day.  Make sure to check the days and times. All supplies are included.  Make your clay creation and select a glaze.  The instructor will glaze once it has been fired.  Pick up finished artwork in several weeks.  No experience necessary in most classes.

Try out the pottery wheel with a sweetheart or friend! Have a creative date night learning the basics of throwing on the potter's wheel. Don't have a sweetheart, come with a friend.  Participants will receive step-by-step instructions. No experience necessary. Select your best pieces and desired glaze then instructor will paint and fire. Pick up your pottery at a later date. The workshop fee of $90 covers class instruction for two people, use of pottery wheels, clay, glaze and firing.

Pottery Wheel - Centering and Wedging Bootcamp

The most important aspect of the pottery wheel is centering your clay piece.  This class will help you gain confidence and experience in centering clay on the potter's wheel.  You will also learn the importance of wedging your clay. Practice, practice practice is the main part of this workshop! You will throw a number of pieces and get to keep two pieces. All supplies included.

Pottery Wheel - Let's Try the Pottery Wheel

This class is for anyone who wants to try the pottery wheel. It is a great way to see if you like it.  You will learn how to center your clay, and how to pull the edges of the clay to create a pot.  Try several pieces and select your favorite. Pick a glaze color and the instructor will glaze it for you.  Students will be called when their piece is ready to be picked up. All supplies included.

HANDBUILDING POTTERY WORKSHOPS

Ages 14 and up

Most workshops are on Saturdays

Handbuilding pottery is using your hands to create clay artwork. The wheel is NOT used in these classes. Students will learn basic handbuilding techniques of coil, pinch-pull and slab to make 3-dimensional clay sculptures and functional art pieces. A pottery workshop is the best way to try the pottery wheel without committing to a class. All supplies included.

Handbuilding Mini Bird House

$50 non-member / $45 member fee

Students will make a mini birdhouse using clay and handbuilding techniques. Cut out windows and add textures for interest. Glaze bird house while wet. Pick up at a later date once it has been fired. All supplies included.

POTTERY PAINTING AND DECORATION

Select from various workshops to paint and decorate pre-made clay pieces.  These clay pieces have been made and fired once which is called bisque firing. 

Glaze and Decorating Techniques Workshop

The Glazing Techniques workshop will teach you unique ways to glaze and decorate your bisque ware by taping, using stencils, and stamping.

DOUBLE THE FUN FAMILY POTTERY WORKSHOPS

Make some special memories with your family at one of our Family Pottery Workshops.  Families of two will each make a pottery piece based on a specific holiday.  Pay one price for two people.  Each additional family member will be an extra $5 per person. Participants will make their clay artwork, then select a glaze and the instructor will glaze and fire them at a later time.  Pick up in several weeks once it has been fired.

Kerri Bram:

Kerri Bram is a long-time art educator teaching art since 2004.  She has taught all levels from PreK through adults in various educational environments. She received her BS in Fine Art and Art Education from the College of Mount St. Joseph and MA from the Cincinnati Art Academy. Kerri utilizes her creative skills to inspire students with an opportunity to develop media mastery in the arts. She is a nurturing art instructor that uses a variety of motivations to introduce students to each project creating a stimulating learning environment. Kerri hopes to “infuse into others, the passion that I have for reading, understanding and communicating through the use of signs and symbols to communicate concepts that are both personal and universal.” Kerri teaches the ArtsConnect Preschool Pottery, Kids and Adult Hand-building and Kids Drawing Painting classes.


Chris Taulbee:

 Christopher Taulbee is the owner of Taul Arts Studio, an arts production company that offers commissioned art services, private art instruction and guitar instruction. Chris has worked both locally and nationally for companies to create signage, print media, web content, murals, logos and more! 

Chris graduated in Fine Arts from the University of Cincinnati DAPP program. He is a proficient painter and potter. He works at Evandale Arts Center teaching Kids Summer Art Camp. He exhibits locally and participates in many art shows in Cincinnati.

Chris teaches Pottery, Oil Painting and Private Guitar lessons for ArtsConnect.

Class Cancellations & Weather Closings

A minimum of six students must be enrolled for the session prior to the stated deadline for the class to take place (maximum 12 students). Any weather closings will be made by ArtsConnect in advance with notification through social media and our Facebook page. To verify closings, call 513-522-2108.

Due to costs incurred in planning for art classes, full refunds will only be issued when the Arts Council cancels the class. Class cancellations made within 10 business days of the class start date are eligible for a refund, minus a $5 administration fee per student. Refunds will be made by check, not to a credit card. To notify us of a cancellation, please send an email to artsinfo@springfieldtwp.org.
