She Sang Freedom

Friday, November 8, 2019  7-10 p.m.

Mt Healthy High School Theater

Dr. Tammy Kernodle, professor of musicology, pianist and vocalist, will Take You There! Experience a musical tour of exceptional black female musicians who used music as a means of documenting and promoting the struggle for equality and social justice in America. Live performances and storytelling of freedom and protest bring context to a historical journey of slavery, the Civil Rights Movements and the proliferation of the Black Power movement. Stories are accentuated by images and live musical performances of Aretha Franklin, Nina Simone, Lena Horne, Mavis Staples and many other greats. The Mt Healthy choir will join in during poignant times, immersing you in an entirely new experience. General admission seating only.
