WinterFest is a family tradition of Springfield Township dating back to 1998. The event has evolved over the years, and when residents were asked to reinvent WinterFest, they thought to add a parade, winter village and a showcase of artistic talent of our local schools! The 2017 WinterFest event will mark ArtsConnect's 5-year anniversary and the list of activities packed into this single day event will certainly mark one big celebration! This letter is an invitation for the School District students to be involved in WinterFest on December 1, 2018.

How Can The School Become Involved in WinterFest?

Participate in the community parade

The parade will step-off at noon from the old Kroger building, (Cincinnati Financial) located at 8685 Winton Road. The parade will travel down Winton Road to the location of the main WinterFest event, located behind the fire station at 9150 Winton Road. We are encouraging all schools to participate in the parade with their band, student groups or even a float. Empower a group of students to decorate the school district tree.

One, eight foot live evergreen tree will be set up in the outdoor Winter Village area for each public and private Springfield Township School District. Students are encouraged to work together at school and design handmade decorations for their tree. Trees should be decorated by the students on Friday, November 30th. (No electric to trees).  To confirm, please fill out the TREE APPLICATION here.

 

Submit up to three pieces of artwork per school to be a part of the indoor student art gallery.

The Grove Banquet Hall, which will be the location for the Madcap Puppet Show and the Cincinnati Civic Orchestra concert, will hold a small art gallery filled with works of art by our local students. Showcase your students’ and the great art projects happening in the school! Each school in the district can submit 3 pieces of visual art. To confirm, please fill out the enclosed student art exhibit form. The artwork will need to be dropped of at The Grove Event Center on Wednesday, November 28th between the hours of 3p.m. – 5p.m. (or by appointment) and picked up at The Grove on Monday, December 3 between the hours of 3p.m. – 5p.m.   Fill out the application STUDENT ART APPLICATION here.


Showcase your school’s talent on the outdoor stage.

Every thirty minutes, between the hours of 1:30-6:30p.m., a school performance will take place on the outdoor stage. This is a major focus for the community event. Performances should be 20 minutes in duration. The stage is 16’x20’ wood platform, low to the ground. Larger groups can be placed outside of the staging area. The audience will be seated on hay bales in front of the stage. We will have a sound technician and producer to bring new groups on and help others exit. These producers will run all sound and microphones. We will provide a drum set, a keyboard, bass and a guitar amp, microphones and a soundboard.  The sound will be heard throughout the entire soccer field area. ONE SCHOOL PERFORMANCE APPLICATION per group is needed for confirmation. All grade levels welcome. Your time will be give to you based on the number of applicants. Deadline to register as a music group, November 15, 2018.


Receive Items From Our Food Pantry Drive

Admission to WinterFest is simple, and supports the community in many ways. We are collecting donations of canned goods, coats and toys. If your school has a food pantry, we would like to share the food donations we collect with you. All food donations will benefit our school pantries. Simply fill out the SCHOOL PANTRY REQUEST FORM to let us know if you would like to be a food pantry donation recipient. We will deliver the food items to you at a time that works best for you.


Volunteer

We need over 80 volunteers to run WinterFest successfully. Two shifts of volunteers are needed; 12:30-4p.m. and 4:00 – 7:30 p.m. We have set up a Signup Genius account where students, residents and churches can sign up to work a specific shift. VOLUNTEER SIGN UP LINK HERE..


Provide Gift Bag Materials

500 gift bags will be handed out to the cars at WinterFest. Your school may have items such as a community profile, school fact sheet, open enrollment flier or logo item(s) inserted into the gift bags. All gift bag items should be dropped off to the Springfield Township Administration Building (9150 Winton Road) no later than November 15th.   We request 500 of EACH item.

As you can see, there are many ways schools can be involved! We ask that you please share this information with all teachers and make the decision to participate in a manner that works best for the school and the students. Further communications will follow once confirmations are in. We ask that confirmations come in as soon as possible, no later than November 15th.
